The german pianist Verena Metzger was born in 1992 and began playing the piano at the age of seven. In 2007 she started working as a pre student with Prof. Claude-France Journès at the Musikhochschule München. Five years later, after graduating from school, Verena began her studies at the Musikhochschule Freiburg. Since 2014 she has been studying with the famous german pianist Prof. Matthias Kirschnereit at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock. As a soloist and chamber musician Verena has worked together with famous artists, such as Menahem Pressler, Jaques Rouvier, Bernd Glemser, Konrad Elser, Claudio Bohorquez and members of the Alban Berg Quartet.
She won the first prize of the national competition „Jugend musiziert“ in Germany, as well as numerous prizes at international competitions like the international Karl Höller competition, the Lions competition and the international competition for „verfemte Musik“. Furthermore she received the „Kunstförderpreis“ in Augsburg in 2012 and the special award in Gersthofen in 2014.
In 2013 she was finalists of the well known TONALi competition in Hamburg.
Due to her extensive repertoire and experience in chamber music, Verena is a highly demanded pianist and accompanist. She performed many concerts and recitals as a soloist and in various chamber groups. As an established Lied accompanist she has worked together with well known singers such as the baritones Matthias Winckhler and Benjamin Appl. In 2013 Verena founded the piano trio with Philipp Wollheim and Raphael Paratore, each of them scholarship recipients of the TONALi competition. As one of their main aims is to create a young generation of classical music audience.
Concerts have brought her to numerous european countries, the USA and the famous Mariinsky theatre in Sankt Petersburg, Russia, in March 2016. Engagements have led her to various festivals e.g. the Festpiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the
Gezeitenkonzerte in Ostfriesland, the Mozartiade Augsburg, the Altmark Festival, the Festival in den Häusern der Stadt and the zwölf.orte festival. Concerts have been broadcasted by the BR, NDR, MDR and Deutschlandfunk. She has appeared as a soloist with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Philharmonic Orchestra Vorpommern, the Polish Chamber Orchestra Sopot, among others. Verena received several scholarships. Since 2010 she is a scholarship recipient of the Yehudi Menuhin „live music now“ society and since 2013 of the Deutschlandstipendium and TONALI.
In 2013 Raphael Paratore and her founded the project „That’s Music!“, with which they bring classical music to young school students and show them how to understand and enjoy classical music.
